Job Description:
Boart Longyear is hiring a new Global Operations Excellence Manager. The Operational Excellence Manager will provide oversight and leadership for the delivery of continuous improvement across the Drilling Services organization. This role will be critical in promoting processes and practices that help us to minimize waste, improve our costs, manufacturing efficiencies, future forecasting and reliability. They will be critical in determining our mechanisms for communications and tracking of this body of work. They will also help, but not be responsible for failure avoidance, defect elimination, failure analysis, and problem-solving techniques to improve asset capability, reliability, performance, and cost effectiveness. They will be critical in promoting good operations and maintenance practices and culture to ensure optimum asset reliability is achieved. They will be pivotal in ensuring BLY has the right capability in skills, and competence of practitioners and professional persons in the performance of specific roles related to business improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred or 5-8 years’ experience in global operating environment with operational excellence line responsibilities or consulting experience
8+ years of experience in operationally focused leadership or project roles, especially related to performance improvement/ operational excellence or lean manufacturing or the equivalent consulting
Formal training in Lean Manufacturing, TOC, Six sigma, Project management and modern operations management techniques or equivalent
Line or consulting experience in Continuous improvement in mining, oil & gas drilling, heavy industrials, field services or manufacturing advantageous
Strong preference for someone who can demonstrate ongoing responsibility and success in project management.
Excellent PC skills in Windows, Excel, Word and Power Point
Experience developing and tracking business cases including financial modeling and metrics of project value delivery
Comprehensive knowledge of analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, Directors and executive team
Strong command of the English language (both in speech and in writing)
Position Responsibilities:
Primary oversight for the design, implementation, and measurement of Boart Longyear Drilling Service’s continuous improvement program across 6 regions
Work closely with Drilling Service’s regional directors and other corporate support functions to ensure each function has a clearly structured continuous improvement program with a clear governance structure and tracking mechanisms
Provide ongoing support for our internal RDO (Results Delivery Office) program.
Aggregate the tracking of continuous improvement actions in each region and high light areas of risk / underperformance
Help diagnose opportunities in each region through periodic analysis of regional performance
Work closely with each region’s Operations Excellence managers as a “Lean” coach and coordinate each manager’s development with their respective Regional Director
Drive the design and implementation of specific high value global improvement projects across all DS regions
Other duties may be assigned.
