Hydraulic Design Engineer

Job Overview

Boart Longyear is seeking a skilled and motivated Hydraulic Engineer to support the design and development of advanced hydraulic systems for our global fleet of drill rigs. This role requires hands-on engineering expertise and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure high-performance, cost-effective hydraulic solutions. The Hydraulic Engineer will contribute to system design, validation, documentation, and integration into our manufacturing and product development processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of hydraulic systems for platforms including LF, LX, LM, and Sonic drill rigs
• Assist in creating and maintaining hydraulic schematics, BOMs, and system documentation
• Participate in design reviews and conduct technical risk assessments
• Perform calculations related to flow, pressure, heat, and structural integrity of hydraulic circuits
• Model and integrate hydraulic assemblies and routing using Creo (Pro/E)
• Ensure data accuracy in engineering databases and PLM systems (Windchill)
• Work closely with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost-effective and manufacturable component selection
• Contribute to prototype builds and testing activities, primarily in Germany and Poland
• Provide engineering support during system troubleshooting, test validation, and quality checks
• Collaborate with team members across global engineering hubs
• 10% global travel for product testing, development and training.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Solid knowledge of hydraulic systems, components, and applications in mobile machinery
• Proficiency in 3D CAD design (ProE Wildfire / Creo)
• Working knowledge of PLM systems, preferably Windchill
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Clear and effective communication in technical environments
• Detail-oriented with good organizational and documentation habits
• Willingness to learn and contribute in a global, cross-functional team
