Scanning Technician
We are currently seeking a Scanning Technician to join our team in Salt Lake City, UT. This is a mixed shop-and-field role based out of our Salt Lake City shop, with periodic travel for field assignments. Field assignments run on rotations of up to 20 days on / 10 days off with 12-hour shifts; between field jobs, you’ll work 40–50 hour weeks at our Salt Lake City shop. Candidates must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the Salt Lake City area.
This role operates and supports our field-deployable XRF-analysis, hyperspectral and core photography systems. Platforms include Veracio’s Scan and Minalyzer scanner units and support for supporting software. No degree is required – we provide full, hands-on training on core sample preparation, our scanning equipment and our user-friendly software, and most new technicians are working independently within their first week, with an experienced support team always available to help troubleshoot.
Compensation
Annualized total earnings potential of $80,000–$90,000, reflecting the substantial, consistent overtime worked by our current technicians. In addition, Travel and Per-diem policies pay-out significant weekly additions to your paychecks when in the field.
Required Qualifications• Must be authorized to work in USA
- Must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Salt Lake City, UT area
- Willingness and ability to work a variable schedule, including 12-hour shifts during field rotations of up to 20 days on / 10 days off, and 40–50 hour weeks in the SLC shop between field assignments
- No degree required – willingness to learn and follow our processes and procedures is what matters most
- Excellent customer service orientation when working with clients and internal team.
- Excellent communication skills – oral and written
- Attention to detail and strong initiative
- Basic computer skills; ability to learn proprietary scanning software (full training provided)
- A current drivers’ license
Preferred Qualifications• Field experience working on a drill rig; mining or exploration core facility – a significant advantage, but not a prerequisite
- Understanding of handling and logging core samples (desirable)
- Demonstrated interest in digital technologies and new innovations
- Basic electrical and mechanical skills, including hands-on experience with common tools such as Allen keys, wrenches, socket sets, hammers and a multimeter (desirable)
- 4WD and Senior First Aid (desirable)
Primary Duties• Prepare core samples and load them onto Veracio scanning units; operate our scanning software to capture and quality-check data
- Trouble shooting and fault finding of technical and practical use issues tied to proprietary analytical equipment
- Learn how to operate and trouble shoot our field-deployable electronic equipment and supporting software
- Conduct field and workshop scanning activities
- Scan client core samples shipped to our Salt Lake City shop, and assist with building and commissioning scanner trailers
- Logistical support for field scanning operations
- Troubleshoot and escalate issues of moderate complexity to senior staff, with support from our technical team, and document incidents in line with company Issue Management System
- Travel regularly, including on short notice, to fulfil the above responsibilities.
Additional Responsibilities • As you grow into the role, you may take on:
- Performs hands-on troubleshooting, service and repairs.
- Contribute to creations of SWP’s and training documentation
- Provide material support to Product Development teams through testing and reporting activities, and operational rollout.
- Training of client field technicians to safely and efficiently operate our field deployable analytical technologies
- Comply with EHS Policy and KPIs.
