Boart Longyear Control Systems Engineer in Katy Wroclawskie, Poland

Job Description:

Boart Longyear has been a leading provider of drilling products and services to the global minerals industry for over 125 years. As the industry’s only integrated drilling services and products provider, we combine engineering excellence, global manufacturing facilities, and the most experienced drilling services group in the business.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Control Systems Engineer to join Boart Longyear’s Global Research and Development (R&D) team to help support and develop Boart Longyear’s automated drilling machines. As a member of the Global R&D team, you are based in our facility in Katy Wroclawskie, you will join and learn from a team of industry experts from around the world developing state-of-the-art exploration drilling rigs and technologies. The role is based in the Katy Wroclawskie office but will require some field work to support the testing and development phase of new drill rig projects. You will continue to support and develop the rigs as they move into our serial production and roll out to field locations around the globe. This is an exciting time to join Boart Longyear as we continue to lead the way in Drilling technology.

Want to know a little more about the role? Day-to-day duties include:

  • Programming and implementation of control systems projects for mobile drilling rigs

  • Commissioning of prototypes and assisting serial rig production

  • Provide both remote and on-site technical support to the field personnel operating the R&D drill rigs

  • Research new and emerging technologies for integration into Boart Longyear rig designs

  • Working with operators on-site globally and implementing improvements based on feedback

  • Assist in the global rollout of these machines by serial production into the future

A few other things we’re looking for:

  • Degree in automation or electrical engineering

  • 5-10 years of experience

  • PLC Software and control system development experience required

  • Experience using CODESYS (v3.5 or v2.3) essential

  • Understanding of machine safety concepts in control systems and associated machine design standards (ISO13849, IEC/EN 62061 / 61508) is desirable, with additional training offered as required

  • Experience with CE requirements and SISTEMA safety calculations is helpful

  • Mechanical aptitude is required and a basic understanding of electric over hydraulic systems is desirable, ePlan is nice to have

  • A willingness to learn and challenge the norm and oneself is essential

  • Commissioning experience is nice to have

  • Good command of English and Polish

  • Flexibility to travel
