Job Description:

Boart Longyear is an integrated drilling services and drilling products provider, producing, manufacturing and operating equipment for the minerals industry, with a drilling presence in water exploration, environmental sampling, energy and oil sands exploration. We are currently seeking a self-motivated Licensed Millwright (443A) or Licensed Electrician (442A or 309A) to fill a position that will be based in our North Bay, Ontario office. This position operates on shift work. Candidates must be able to adapt to 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts or a 24/7 shift schedule.

The Role

As a Licensed Millwright (443A) or Licensed Industrial Electrician (442A) or (309A), you will possess a well-rounded background in mechanical repairs, production maintenance and hands-on maintenance experience in a high-volume Machining and Manufacturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Maintenance on all plant equipment

  • Maintain, Trouble-shoot, Repair, and Install CNC and Robotic controlled industrial equipment.

  • Strong working knowledge of Electrical systems and PLCs.

  • Evaluate, prepare and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on a variety of lines and equipment.

  • Plan, organize & perform assigned tasks in sequence with minimum supervision & direction.

  • Replace, rotate, inspect and change parts of industrial machines.

  • Align machines and equipment, using various means and tools to do so.

  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.

  • Assemble and install equipment, using a variety of hand tools and power tools.

  • Use blueprints and electrical schematic drawings to determine work procedures.

  • Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and lift trucks.

  • Develop and prioritize individual machine maintenance needs when necessary.

  • Properly Lock out/ Tag out any applicable equipment before maintenance.

  • Properly follow all safety policies.

  • Communicate safety issues immediately and inform supervisor of any inconsistencies.

  • Any and all other duties deemed necessary by supervision.

  • Read and write maintenance reports, maintenance log entries, manuals, procedures and related instructions.

  • Identify / report hazards and fulfill all Health & Safety, WHMIS, MSDS, and company policy requirements.

  • Active participant & contributor to the continuous improvement process.

Shift Work

  • Candidates must be able to adapt to 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts

  • Candidates must also be able to adapt to a 24/7 shift schedule.

Required Skills :

The successful candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Licensed Industrial Electrician (442A) or (309A). Must be certified to work in Ontario as an Industrial Mechanical Electrician.

  • Licensed Millwright (443A)/ Must possess an Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright

  • Intermediate to advanced CNC and servo systems knowledge.

  • Strong knowledge, trouble-shooting of hydraulic, robotics, pneumatic, and electrical systems and PLCs is an asset.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, OEM manuals and related technical data.

  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced production environment

  • Must have strong communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Must be able to work shifts including 12-hour shifts when required.

  • Valid Driver’s License

Required Experience :

The successful candidate will possess the following experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on production maintenance experience in a high-volume machining and manufacturing environment.

  • Strong knowledge of electronic controls, Robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics and PLCs

Reporting Relationship

The position reports directly to the Production Manager, who is located in North Bay, Ontario.
