Boart Longyear Field Mechanic - Hemlo in Haileybury, Ontario
Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain drilling equipment and mobile support equipment used within the scope of Boart Longyear Drilling operations. Mechanic is also responsible to order components and fill out maintenance documentation.
Mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:
Check for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine extent of repair required
Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets regulatory specifications
Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
Perform repair work on all Boart Longyear Drilling equipment.
May service specialty attachments or components and maintain, adjust and repair such items.
Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed
Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments.
Requisition parts, materials and supplies
Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity
Ideally, the candidate will be local to Marathon or Thunder Bay areas but the company will entertain someone from out of town if the individual experience is outstanding. Anywhere in Ontario will be considered.
The mechanic will work in an underground environment at Marathon.
The mechanic will work a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off schedule.
The mechanic will be supporting the Underground Coring (UC) division of Boart Longyear.
Experience with underground hydraulic and electrical equipment is required. Experience on underground diamond drills and mobile equipment is an asset.
Trade Certification (Red Seal) in heavy duty, millwright or mobile.
Underground Common Core Certification Required
Completion of secondary school is usually required.
Completion of three- to five-year apprenticeship program
This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver’s license upon being hired, by submitting a driver’s abstract to Human Resources
